Clips circulating widely on social media show CSMT crowded with travellers just minutes before midnight. As the station clock flipped from 11.59 pm to 12.00 am, the air filled with the thunderous horns of multiple trains. Passengers and railway employees alike joined in the celebration, applauding, cheering, and capturing the scene on their phones as the New Year arrived.
The moment was also shared by Central Railway on its official X account. Posting the video, the railways wished everyone well for the year ahead, writing: “Central Railway celebrates New Year at CSMT with customary horns at 00.00 of 1 January 2026. Happy New Year and Safe Journey Ahead to all.”

The celebration quickly caught fire online. Instagram user Mumbai Rohit Prasad reposted the clip, calling the tradition deeply personal. “As the New Year arrives, the beautiful tradition at CSMT lives on. More than a celebration — it’s an emotion that beats in every Mumbaikar’s heart,” he wrote.
As the video spread, reactions poured in from across social media. Many viewers praised the Indian Railways for turning a routine space into a moment of shared joy. One user commented, “Glad to see how people find ways to celebrate in their own ways.” Another added, “The only thing I love about Mumbai is the way they find ways to celebrate.”
