The newly elected governing committee of the Kochi Corporation has announced a 50-day action plan comprising 21 projects to be implemented on a priority basis.

Mayor V.K. Minimol, unveiling the plan on Tuesday, said the objective was to complete most of the initiatives before the Assembly election is notified. She emphasised that the projects were prepared in consultation with residents and would be executed in collaboration with government agencies, public and private institutions, residents’ associations, and social organisations.

The first priority is an intensive mosquito eradication drive. Scientific fogging will be carried out across breeding centres, with additional fogging machines purchased and staff deployed. A “dry day” will be observed every fortnight, while a monitoring unit will oversee mosquito control. Each division will receive ₹5 lakh to clear small drains.

The Animal Birth Control (ABC) programme will be strengthened with new equipment, veterinary experts, two dog squad vehicles, and 15 kennels. The Brahmapuram ABC centre will be expanded with more doctors and assistants, funded by BPCL’s CSR initiative. A new portal will raise awareness about the centre’s activities, facilitate dog adoption, and regulate feeding practices, allowing feeding only at the centre, not on the streets.

Pending works at the new municipal office will be completed soon, with all departments shifted there. A visitor facilitation centre with a modern front office and help desk will also be established. Two electric vehicles will provide free transport between the High Court Junction and the new office, funded by BPCL’s CSR programme. A single-window system will streamline the issuance of licences, permits, taxes, and approvals, including those under the Kerala Places of Public Resort Act.

Two low-cost physiotherapy centres will be opened at Fort Kochi and Edappally, with more centres planned at primary health centres and old-age homes. The Corporation will also establish five new wellness centres.

The Goshree Junction–BTH stretch will be developed as a model road, featuring disabled-friendly footpaths, street lights, greenery, and modern bus shelters. A Clean Kochi campaign will be launched on a war footing to remove waste and unauthorised posters and hoardings from public spaces.

Adalats will be held at the zonal level to resolve grievances, except those under judicial consideration. New public toilets will be constructed across major tourist destinations, including two in Fort Kochi. Buds schools under the Corporation will be upgraded with all essential facilities.

Two incinerators with a combined capacity of four tonnes will soon become operational at a subsidised rate of ₹12 or less. Sanitary napkin disposal systems will be installed in all Corporation schools. A new 50-tonne windrow compost plant will be set up at Brahmapuram.

Fort Kochi beach will become the first in India to adopt the green protocol, with health inspectors and kiosks deployed for monitoring.

The SC/ST women’s hostel at Kacheripady will be integrated with She Lodge under a common management system under the Feel@Home initiative. The Corporation’s Mobile Food Testing Lab will be made fully operational.

On Women’s Day, the Corporation will host a literary meet of women writers and felicitate women achievers.

A monthly Talk with Mayor programme will be held at the Ernakulam and Mattancherry Town Halls, where the Mayor and Deputy Mayor will preside alternately to hear complaints, problems, and suggestions directly from the public.
