Thousands of political leaders and party workers arrived in Baramati to pay their final respects to Ajit Pawar, who was killed in a tragic plane crash on Wednesday.

Several political leaders, including the Pawar family, and thousands of NCP workers arrived in Baramati on Thursday to bid farewell to Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, who was killed in a tragic plane crash the previous day. FOLLOW LIVE UPDATES
Ajit Pawar will be given a full state funeral as the Maharashtra government has announced three days of state mourning and declared a public holiday in his honour. His last rites will be held at the Vidya Pratishthan ground in Baramati, an educational institution started by the Pawar family.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah will also be present at the funeral. The mortal remains of Ajit Pawar will be kept at Vidya Pratishthan School in Baramati from 5 pm onwards today for people to pay their last respects.
Ajit Pawar’s wife Sunetra, uncle Sharad Pawar, cousin Supriya Sule, and sons Parth and Jay were present at his funeral. Thousands of Ajit Pawar supporters and NCP loyalists had gathered at the venue and chanted slogans in memory of the influential political leader.
Former Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and actor Riteish Deshmukh were also present on the occasion. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde had already reached the venue earlier.
Union Minister Amit Shah, BJP National President Nitin Nabin, Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin were also present at the cremation ground.
Following his death, the state government said that all official buildings across Maharashtra will fly the Tricolour at half-mast for three days. All state-sponsored entertainment programmes and official functions have been cancelled as a mark of respect.
The NCP leader, 66, was among five people killed when a chartered Learjet 45, operated by Delhi-based VSR Ventures, burst into flames while attempting to land in poor visibility at Baramati Airport.
Along with Pawar, his personal security officer Vidip Jadhav, flight attendant Pinky Mali, Pilot-in-Command Sumit Kapur, and Second-in-Command Shambhavi Pathak, were also killed. The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) has launched a full-scale probe into the crash, with the Union Aviation Ministry citing poor visibility as a primary factor.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Civil Aviation said that the black box of the aircraft carrying Ajit Pawar and others has been recovered. A forensic team has arrived at the crash site in Baramati to collect evidence from the debris of the ill-fated plane that crashed on Wednesday.
