The government of Tamil Nadu launched  ‘Namma Arasu’, a WhatsApp-based chatbot that offers access to 51 essential citizen services to residents. Developed in partnership with Meta, residents of Tamil Nadu can avail of services offered by Namma Arasu on +91 7845252525.  Available in both Tamil and English, the chatbot integrates essential services into a single platform, making it easy to take advantage of the services offered by numerous public services by the government.

With a built-in search functionality, Namma Arasu allows citizens to download certificates, make tax and utility bill payments, access ration card services, make temple donations, file and track grievances, check property registration, tourism booking, as well as access welfare schemes and transport-related services.

The government of Tamil Nadu says Namma Arasu joins the growing network of state-led WhatsApp chatbots that make it easy to use government services across the state. In the coming days, the chatbot is expected to get additional services across departments. The WhatsApp based chatbot can help save a lot of time as a lot of government services can be accessed from a single menu without having to switch between apps or visit multiple government offices.

“We’re proud to partner with the Government of Tamil Nadu on Namma Arasu, transforming WhatsApp into a unified gateway for essential public services. By connecting citizens to government services in real time, this initiative delivers real-time access to high-demand services like tax and bill payments, certificate downloads, eliminating complexity and bringing government support directly into citizens’ daily lives. Namma Arasu sets a new benchmark for scalable, inclusive digital governance, empowering citizens across Tamil Nadu, ”said Arun Srinivas, the Managing Director and Country Head at Meta India.

Tamil Nadu is the third state in India to make use of WhatsApp chatbots to offer citizen services. Meta already has similar chatbots in Andhra Pradesh and Odisha.
