Sharad Pawar said the merger of the two NCP factions, scheduled for February 12, has been halted following the death of Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar. Speaking at a press conference, he said the talks, which had been ongoing for four months, are now on hold as leaders from Ajit Pawar’s camp are reportedly no longer pursuing the merger, leaving the party’s future direction uncertain.
“Unfortunately, Ajit Pawar’s plane crash has halted the merger talks,” Sharad Pawar said, adding that there had been a shared desire for unity. “Our desire is also that the two sides should come together.”
