“Sports, and football in particular, is difficult at times but it gives me the opportunity to teach my kids and be something for them,” he explained. “It was a moment in time I’ll never forget. Just being able to talk to her in that moment and bring her back from tears but also just saying it to her and saying it to myself at the same time. It’s a special thing.”
Despite the upset for the Rams—who last won the Super Bowl in 2022—Matthew emphasized that he still got something out of their final game of the season.
“Have the courage to go put yourself out there,” he shared, “Live with the results and learn from them.”
Matthew’s wife Kelly, meanwhile, also shared a glimpse into how the family came together after the loss.
“After leaving everything out on that field and coming up short,” the podcaster shared on Instagram Jan. 26, alongside a baby monitor video of Matthew tucking in his daughters, “at 2:30 am, this was Matthew.”
Of course, the Stafford girls were just as supportive to their dad this past season. After all, Kelly previously shared that they attended 15 of his 17 regular season games, as well as the playoffs, complete with coordinating outfits to support his team.
“The passion for football it instilled in my daughters (now all of the them want to play QB on a girls flag football team) is so fun to see, but also for them to start to understand how hard work and dedication pays off,” Kelly wrote in a Jan. 7 Instagram post. “Incredibly blessed to witness the man I love, with the girls I love, do the thing he loves most.”
