A meeting will be held soon to resolve the woes of residents in layouts developed by the erstwhile Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) and the private layouts approved by it, promised G.T. Deve Gowda, Chamundeshwari Assembly constituency MLA.

Chairing a meeting of officials from the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC), town panchayats, and Hootagalli City Municipal Council (CMC) on January 3, Mr. Gowda referred to the civic problems faced by these residents and acknowledged that several layouts had been handed over to local bodies without providing basic infrastructure.

The issue had been brought to the notice of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Minister for Urban Development Byrathi Suresh, who has promised to convene a meeting soon to resolve the matter.

“Since the layouts were handed over without basic infrastructure, there is now a shortage of funds to take up the required work. If the officials prepare a list of works required in each layout, it can be presented at the meeting to be convened by the Minister and approval can be sought for the release of funds,” Mr. Gowda said.

He directed the chief officers of the town panchayats and the Municipal Commissioner of the CMC to immediately gather complete details of the layouts handed over within their jurisdiction. The MLA promised to take up the matter with the government.

It may be mentioned here that residents of several private layouts had taken out protests and held demonstrations against the civic inadequacies, namely improper roads, absence of garbage clearance, choked underground drainage, and absence of street lights in their respective localities.

Suggesting that a separate task force should be formed to collect revenue, Mr. Gowda said residents of the new areas to be merged with the MCC should be informed about the same and that they should pay their taxes.

He added, “Awareness should be created that taxes will increase after the inclusion of their areas in MCC limits. It should be clearly explained that keeping the tax pending will create problems during the handover process.”
