The police arrested three persons and solved a Rs 77 lakh burglary that had not come to light by then. It was only after the police contacted the artist at whose empty Santacruz residence the burglary took place, she found out about it. Eventually an FIR was registered at the local police station and the three accused persons were arrested.
An officer said that the Nagpada police received a tip off Tuesday night that three persons who had burgled a Juhu house were coming to Bombay Central railway station to take a train to flee to Bihar. Based on the tip off, the police detained the trio identified as Phulo Mukhiya (40), Santosh Mukhiya (33) and Laloo Mukhiya (37).
The trio were taken to the police station and searched following which a large quantity of gold and diamond jewellery and other valuables totally worth Rs 72.77 lakh were allegedly found.
The local police found that the house was being renovated and no one was staying there. The owner Gayathri Gujarathi, an artist, was residing at Gowalia Tank in south Mumbai as renovation work was ongoing at her Santacruz house.
The police then contacted her and informed her about what had transpired. It was based on her statement that the Santacruz police registered an FIR in the matter and took custody of the three accused from the Nagpada police station.
An officer said that the accused were history-sheeters with all three of them having past burglary cases against them. On questioning the police found that they hail from Bihar and were planning to flee to their village when they were detained by the police. The accused were produced before the local court and remanded in police custody.
