Kurnool district reported a 0.7 per cent increase in overall crime rate in 2025, however, there has been a decrease in number of murders and attempt to murder cases when compared to 2024.
Addressing the media on the annual crime statistics for the year, Superintendent of Police (SP) Vikrant Patil said that while a total of 4,022 cases were registered during 2024, the numbers slightly increased to 4,051 in 2025. Mr. Vikrant Patil said the number of murders in 2025 was 29 compared to 34 in 2024, recording a 15 per cent decrease. Similarly the number of attempt to murder cases were 29 in 2025 compared to 41 in 2024 (29 per cent decrease). The cases of kidnappings in 2025 were 17 compared to 16 last year.
Meanwhile, the recovery of stolen property stood at 68.24 per cent, Mr. Vikrant Patil said. While ₹8,90,33,984 was stolen, the recovery stood at 6,07,59,891. Dacoities, robberies, daytime thefts and night thefts increased in 2025.
The number of accidents witnessed a steep jump in 2025. While a total of 547 (270 fatal and 277 non-fatal) accidents were reported in 2024, the same spiked to 658 (278 fatal and 380 non-fatal).
Mr. Vikrant Patil said crimes against women came down in 2025. While 10 rape cases were reported in 2024, five cases were registered this year. Similarly, the POCSO cases registered in 2025 were 37 as against 61 in 2024. Crime against SCs and STs have also come down by 13.71 per cent in 2025.
On the other hand, 64 cybercrime cases were reported in 2025 as against 107 in 2024, registering a 40 per cent decrease. Police refunded ₹82.90 lakh into the bank accounts of complainants, while over ₹5.86 crore in bank accounts were frozen. The police recovered 1,873 mobile phones worth ₹3.7 crore this year.
The enforcement drives have increased when compared to previous year, the SP said, adding that while 1,613 drunk and drive cases were registered in the last year, the same shot up to 9,196 cases. Similarly, 17,392 cases of open drinking cases were registered in 2025 against 4,338 last year.
