Amit Shah said the BJP would get more than 50 per cent votes in the upcoming Assembly election and reaffirmed that the party would form the next government in Bengal after Bihar.
TL;DR: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday said Mamata Banerjee and her government were opposing “Vande Mataram" to protect Bangladeshi infiltrators.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday said Mamata Banerjee and her government were opposing “Vande Mataram" to protect Bangladeshi infiltrators. He said opposing the slogan was against Bengal’s heritage, the nation’s culture and identity, and asked whether people of Bengal would accept this. He urged people to uproot the Trinamool Congress government in the election.
“Mamata Banerjee and her government are opposing Vande Mataram to protect infiltrators. By opposing Vande Mataram, Mamata Banerjee is acting against Bengal’s heritage and the nation’s culture and identity. Will the people of Bengal tolerate or accept this opposition to Bengal’s identity? In the upcoming election, uproot the Trinamool Congress government completely," Shah said in West Bengal while addressing a programme in North 24 Parganas’s in Barrackpore.
He said those who were martyred during the freedom struggle had “Vande Mataram" as their last words. He added that the government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has decided to celebrate 150 years of “Vande Mataram" across the country. He said the slogan would rise from Bengal to Kashmir, from Kanyakumari and from Gujarat to Bengal.
BJP Bengal election target
“When Lord Ram was building the Ram Setu, Ravan kept creating obstacles in the same way like Mamata Banerjee is doing in Bengal. In 2019, the BJP won 18 seats. In 2021, with 77 seats, Suvendu Adhikari became the Leader of the Opposition, firmly establishing the BJP as the principal opposition party in the state. Now, in the upcoming election, you must increase the vote share from 39% to 45%," he said.
“The BJP has come to power in Bihar and Delhi with a massive public mandate. The party has also performed well in the municipal elections in Kerala and Mumbai. Mamata Banerjee came to power speaking of ‘Ma, Mati, Manush’. But today, women are unsafe. The land is under the control of infiltrators. There is no security for the people. To protect Ma, Mati, and Manush, Bengal needs a BJP government," Shah added.
Shah challenged Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to not give election tickets to Trinamool Congress leaders who were raided by the CBI and ED in recent years. These include Partha Chatterjee, Anubrata Mondal, Jyotipriya Mallick, Sheikh Shahjahan, Firhad Hakim, Madam Mitra among others.
Matua community and SIR
Amit Shah said, “Mamata Banerjee is trying to intimidate the Matua community. Shantanu Thakur is standing with you. I want to tell the people of the Matua community that there is no need to be afraid; we are with you, and the Central government is also with you. No matter how much Mamata Banerjee opposes the SIR, it will be implemented in accordance with the law and established rules."
He added, “Not just change, the government of this state must be uprooted completely, roots and all. The BJP will build a Sonar Bangla envisioned by Rabindranath Tagore and Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay."
Border fencing and infiltration issue
He said forming a government in Bengal was crucial not only for the state but for national security. Shah said infiltration was threatening Bengal and the country. He said the state government does not provide land for border fencing, which has stopped complete barbed-wire fencing.
He said infiltrators enter through the border and that the state police administration prepares fake documents for them. He added that the High Court had spoken in favour of the BSF on the issue of border fencing. Shah said that even after the High Court’s directive, land was not provided because infiltrators were a vote bank.
He said that once the BJP comes to power by the end of April, it would ensure land is acquired and border fencing is completed within 45 days to guarantee security.
