In a special show of friendship between India and Jordan, Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II personally drove Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the Jordan Museum in Amman on Tuesday.
This visit is the first leg of the Prime Minister’s four-day, three-nation tour. After Jordan, he will visit Ethiopia and Oman. This trip marks the first full bilateral visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Jordan in many years.
On the social media platform X, PM Modi expressed his gratitude to Crown Prince Al Hussein, a 42nd-generation direct descendant of Prophet Muhammad, for personally guiding him through the country's history and culture showcased at the museum.
PM Modi said he had "interacted extensively" with the Crown Prince. He praised the Prince’s passion for Jordan’s progress. The Prime Minister also highlighted the Prince's work in youth development, space, and innovation.
“His contributions to areas such as youth development, sports, space, innovation and furthering the welfare of persons with disabilities are truly remarkable,” Modi said, wishing Al-Hussein in his pursuits to strengthen Jordan's growth trajectory.
Located in the Ras al-Ein district of Amman, the Jordan Museum is the country's largest, tracing the region’s civilizational journey from prehistoric times to the present day. Its collection includes some of the world's oldest statues, the 9,000-year-old Ain Ghazal lime plaster figures, as well as animal bones dating back 1.5 million years.
In a post on X, India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA)spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal wrote: “Exploring ancient links between India and Jordan! Vikas bhi Virasat bhi!”
He added that PM Modi and the Crown Prince reflected on shared civilisational links and centuries-old connections between the two countries. The leaders were given a special tour of the museum by HRH Princess Sumaya bint El Hassan, Vice-Chair of the Jordan Museum.
This rare gesture concluded the first part of the Prime Minister's official trip. Ethiopia is the next stop on his itinerary. The MEA stated that the visit was a success, reflecting the warm bond between the two countries.
In an X post, the MEA said: “A successful visit to Jordan concludes. In a gesture reflecting the warm bilateral ties, HRH Crown Prince Al-Hussein bin Abdullah II drove PM @narendramodi to the airport and saw him off.”
