Each of the 10 zones spread across five city corporations have to identify five pedestrian locations in poor condition within each zone to fix them at the earliest, directed Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) Chief Commissioner M. Maheshwar Rao on Tuesday. Addressing a virtual meeting of all five corporations, he directed officials to identify 50 spots with high pedestrian footfall but having issues, and repair them and submit a detailed report listing the completed works. He said pedestrian pathways should be well-maintained and kept clean. He asked officials to identify those dumping waste on the roadside and in empty plots and fine them. He also directed officials to upgrade junctions taken up for improvement under the Suraksha 75 scheme, within the stipulated time frame. This also has pedestrian safety as its focus. Apart from these, Mr. Rao also directed civic officials to identify suitable locations for dog shelters in each corporation to implement a recent Supreme Court ruling, construct one transfer station per Assembly constituency, and install kasa kiosks in areas with high waste generation and near slum settlements. Earlier in the day, Mr. Rao inspected several works in the Kasturinagar area and directed officials to create a master plan for the comprehensive development of the Kasturinagar area, including overall infrastructure development. Kasturinagar area is now divided between Bengaluru Central and East City Corporations.
