Madhuri Dixit was one of the top actresses in Bollywood, back in the 1980s and 90s. However, when her acting career was still soaring, the veteran actor moved to the US in 1999, after getting married to Dr Sriram Nene. In a recent interview, Madhuri opened up about her decision to relocate to Denver, leaving behind fame and away from the spotlight. She also talked about her sons – Arin and Ryan, and how they call the film industry a ‘circus’.
During a conversation with Mid-Day, Madhuri was asked about her life in the US when India’s top superstar settled in a small US city, without security, and no one around knows who you are. “Everybody has dreams for their lives and this was a big part of my dream for myself. I always thought that I’ll get married, have a house, and children. So, when it actually happened, for me it was like a dream, so I didn’t even think twice. I wanted him as a partner for life, I got married, and started living in the US. I had visited my siblings who have been living there since a long time,” she replied.
The actor further added, “I knew what life there is all about, you have to do everything on your own, etc. Nothing was a shock for me, in fact, I enjoyed the quiet time that I had by myself. Doing my own things, having my kids, taking them to the park without being recognised. Just having fun with them, taking them skiing and for other activities.”
Discussing the career interests of her sons, she shared that her second child Ryan (born in 2005) has an interest in science, STEM, while her elder son Arin (born in 2003), is inclined towards music. “The younger one is in college at USC and the older one just graduated this year, in May. He is working in Apple. The older guy had some inklings of maybe wanting to be in movies, but I think his passion is music. So, he produces his music and he does all that. Even in school, he has done music as minor and CS engineering as the major. The younger one is a STEM guy. He is into technology and engineering, math, he is amazing though.”
When asked if the actor intentionally kept them away from the limelight, Madhuri said, “I didn’t really keep them away. I have taken them when they wanted to come with me, and if they didn’t, I respected that. They were 6 and 8 when we moved from the US. My kids are different, my younger one is not interested in this whole circus, just out of it. It is a circus now, when you step out to go anywhere. The older guy is more out there and open, both of them have never been actually into the industry.” She revealed that elder son is working at Apple, where he is involved in projects related to noise cancellation. “He produces his own music. Even in school, he did music as a minor and computer science engineering as his major.”
On the professional front, Madhuri Dixit‘s JioHotstar web series Mrs. Deshpande released today. The psychological thriller has been directed by Nagesh Kukunoor. The actor also has Maa-Behen in the works with Triptii Dimrii, Ravi Kishan, and Dharna Durga.
