Sankranti festivities in Hyderabad next year [2025] would feature grander events as hot air balloons, drones too would take to the city besides colourful kites. The lakes in and around the city, which have been rejuvenated, may also host the festival.
The details were discussed at a review meeting held by Chief Secretary, K. Ramakrishna Rao, at the Telangana State Secretariat in Hyderabad on Monday (December 22, 2025).
The International Kite Festival would be organised at the Parade Grounds in Secunderabad from January 13 to 15, with participation from international and national kite flyers, said the Tourism Department’s Managing Director, V Kranti. A similar festival was held at the venue this year. Thousands of people came to the venue with friends and family.
Besides, a Hot Air Balloon Festival too would be held on the city outskirts during the same period. A Drone Festival too was planned, with participation of drone pilots from across the country.
The Chief Secretary said that the Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy wants the festival be organised at lakes rejuvenated by Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA), to showcase and highlight the successful rejuvenation of these water bodies, as per a press note.
Mr. Rao directed the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA), and HYDRAA to assign one dedicated officer each to supervise and coordinate the works related to the festival at the identified locations. He said that Ministers will visit these rejuvenated lakes from the first week of January to review the arrangements and assess the preparedness.
HYDRAA’s Commissioner, A.V. Ranganath, presented details of the lakes rejuvenated by the agency, highlighting the efforts put in to improve public utility, water storage and environmental sustainability.
Special Chief Secretary of Roads and Building, Vikas Raj; HMDA Commissioner, Sarfraz Ahmed; GHMC Commissioner, R.V. Karnan; Collectors Harichandana, Narayana Reddy and Manu Choudary; TSPDCL MD, Musharraf Faruqui and other senior officials attended the meeting.
